OVERWEIGHT LINKED WITH WEAKER BONES IN YOUNG WOMEN

Overweight in young women is linked with reduced bone strength, according to an analysis of 115 women ages 18 and 19. Those with high body fat had 8% to 9% weaker bones, compared with subjects with leaner subjects. The study’s authors point out that this conclusion contradicts the commonly held belief that increased body mass leads to stronger bone formation.
