Brain Goes Up In Smoke
Researchers have found that smokers experience greater mental decline compared to non-smokers. Smokers showed more impaired levels of cognitive ability and of psychomotor skills. The study published in the latest edition of Addictive Behaviors Journal (Vol 30) was performed during 2000 to 2002. It was a re-examination of 500 men and women who originally participated in an IQ testing study at the age of 11. The participant’s IQ was retested at an average of 64 years old and adjusted for individual variation. The results were that smoking contributed to greater mental decline. Those who didn’t use their brains as much (determined by education levels and occupation types) showed decreased cognitive function compared to those who did use their higher faculties. We all are very aware that smoking is commonly associated with lung problems, but it is not often that research is linked to the neurological consequences of this lifestyle choice.

A Wonderful Immune Building Exercise
Most moms will attest to the fact that when their little one’s head off to day care or kindergarten they start having more colds than they were previously. Recent research has been published showing that although day care may increase the risk of colds at a young age, it may prevent colds when children are older. The early onset of those runny noses indicates that their child is developing their immunity, which will protect them against similar conditions in the future.

The researchers conducted a long-term follow-up study of 991 children from birth to 13 years and published it in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine February 2002;156:104, 121-126. They found that overall, children who attended large day care centres had more frequent colds at 2 and 3 years of age than their peers who were enrolled in small day care centres, and children in small day care centres had more frequent colds at those ages than those in home care. Children cared for in large day care centres were 90% more likely to have frequent colds than their peers who were cared for at home.

One Of The Best-Kept Health Secrets In The World
Most people have been lead to believe that eating nutritious foods (including supplements) drinking plenty of water, exercising regularly, sleeping well and having a clean air supply will make you healthy. NOT TRUE! These things are a vital part of living a healthy lifestyle – but every function in your body is under the TOTAL control of your Nervous System. If your nervous system is not working properly, then your body is not working properly no matter how much nutrition, rest and exercise it gets.

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your Nervous System controls and coordinates the function of every cell, tissue and organ in the body. Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord and millions of nerves. Your brain is protected by your skull; your spinal cord is protected by 24 moving bones (vertebra) that make up the spine. If your spinal vertebra shift out off alignment, it can lead to remarkable interference to the spinal cord and spinal nerves, causing nervous system dysfunction and ultimately ill health. This condition is referred to as VERTEBRA SUBLUXATION. Many everyday activities can cause subluxation, such as poor posture, stress, falls and gravity. Compound this by sporting injuries, car accidents and bad bedding. Subluxation is a very serious and common problem especially when left undetected and uncorrected.

Health Comes From Above/Down, Inside/Out
You may ask "What does Above/Down, Inside/Out mean?"
This metaphysical premise of chiropractic suggests: There is a universal intelligence in all matter and continually gives to it all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it in existence.
Observers through the history of mankind have noted this Intelligence and have referred to it in many ways. This is the Above/Down component. We are connected to the Universal Intelligence, which flows Above/Down and expresses from the Inside to the Outside. (Health comes from within)

How does this Intelligence flow through the body?...

Hot flashes can be a huge dilemma for women at any age
Females start having temperature variations anywhere between 40 and 60 years of age. I have some 80+ year-old new patients that have periodic hot spikes. Here is my observation.

The most common cause of hot flashes is a functional low thyroid. You can monitor your thyroid by taking your arm pit temperature three days in a row the very first thing in the morning. Do not move except to place the thermometer in your arm pit for ten minutes. If the temperature is below 97.8 you would do best to start taking organic iodine. We use Prolamine Iodine by Standard Process . HRT is normally the course of treatment for conventional medicine. I would try every natural whole food protocol before taking man-made, synthetic hormones. Drugless care does work well for hot flashes.

Begin monitoring your thyroid today - You'll be glad you did!

Government Rates of Harm Described as Epidemic
An epidemic, of harm arising from medical treatment as distinct from the patient's disorder, threatens to shatter a social contract between citizens and our government. Part of the contract is; government sponsored health care will be safe

Our government sponsors most of our medical treatment. In 1995, John Archer estimated Australia has 50,000 physician-induced deaths per year. He wrote of an epidemic of death and injury that makes Australia's road toll pale into insignificance.

How Can Your Spine Affect Your Bodily Health?
As you can see, any interference with your nerve system will result in you functioning at a lower level than you could.

Henry Windsor, MD in Haverford, Pennsylvania, USA dissected a total of 75 human and 22 cat cadavers. He found that 221 structures other than the spine were found diseased. Of these, 212 were observed to belong to the same sympathetic (nerve) segments as the vertebrae in curvature.

Look At Your Posture - Others Do! - Straighten Up!
This current series of articles on posture has prompted many people to take a look at their posture and especially that of their children. The old saying that ‘as grows the twig, so grows the tree’ is so true when we consider posture.

Good posture means that the bones are aligned in such a way that there is minimal stress or tension. This proper alignment allows muscles, joints, and ligaments to work smoothly. Good posture also enables your vital organs to be positioned properly so that they can function at peak efficiency.

Look At Your Posture - Others Do! Out Of Shape System?
The population is ailing, the massive cost of ‘health care’ is still rising and yet the ‘song’ is still the same – “we need more drugs, more doctors and more hospitals”. Due to our insistence that the source of a problem is with its symptoms we are looking at a more and more microscopic view of physiology and its sick cousin, pathology.

Specifically, billions are spent yearly to investigate and seek a ‘cure’ for diseases which are considered at epidemic proportions: Back pain, headache, depression, respiratory disease, hormonal disruption, blood pressure and immune system breakdown to name a few.

Look At Your Posture - Others Do! – Watch The Curves!
It is said that in our life, two things are certain – death and taxes! Let’s add one more thing – gravity. Of all stresses in life, gravity is one of the most constant and relentless. It is constantly pulling us towards the ground and from the time we pull ourselves up on two feet we are battling with this force. As with any stress, it is not so much the stress, its how we deal with it that counts.

How we deal with gravity in a standing position is very much up to the integrity of our spine. As our spine and extremities are a continuous chain of movement, when one joint of that chain loses its ability to support us the rest of the system is called upon to compensate.

Look At Your Posture - Others Do! Hunch back??
Picture the Hunch back of Notre Dame. An image of a deformed, shuffling and debilitated character comes to mind. This is not exactly the picture of the ideally postured individual.

Look At Your Posture - Others Do! How Is Your Head Carriage?
A Human Being, as the name suggests is recognition of two components. The word human originates from the word that humus is derived from. The human is the ‘dirt’, the ‘soil’ or the ‘clay’. The human is the physical or material component. The Being is that which drives the human. It is the metaphysical, the immaterial or immeasurable part. While many sciences have shied away from acknowledging the being and its role in life expression, chiropractic has included consideration and respect for this element in all that it does.

New Research Links Nutrasweet to Leukemia and Lymphoma
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced in April that, “there is no indication of any genotoxic or carcinogenic potential of aspartame.” But in fact, aspartame is an addictive, excitoneurotoxic, genetically engineered carcinogen.

In 2005, a rigorous three year study on 1,800 rats concluded that aspartame causes significant increases in lymphoma and leukemia and is a multi-potential carcinogen. EFSA invented “deficiencies” in the study. But a second study entirely verified the first one. Dr. Morando Soffritti, who led both projects, noted that so much formaldehyde developed in aspartame-exposed rats that their skin turned yellow.

The U.S. FDA approved aspartame as a synthetic sweetener in 1981. However, studies given to the FDA by the manufacturer hid the fact the poison caused tumors in lab rats.
