Low Back Pain vs The World
In my career, I’ve seen quite a few patients with low back pain, but this statistic I just found startled me. The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) notes that at any particular moment, 31 million Americans are suffering from low back pain. That’s more than one in ten. One half of all working Americans have some form of low back pain each year.
What’s just as startling is that the ACA also notes that low back pain is the world’s leading cause of disability.
If you are 30 or older, you’ve probably had an episode of acute low back pain. Usually, some action you have taken a thousand times triggers low back spasms that make normal movement impossible. The intense, painful grab makes it so hard to stand up or turn over when lying down. We never realize how much those low back muscles are involved in our everyday movements until they are in spasm!
I hope you are lucky enough to have a chiropractor you trust at these moments. If so, you’ve learned that getting a schedule of adjustments will settle things out in most cases.
Causes Of Low Back Pain
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration noted personal or work-related factors that can contribute to back pain.
Repetitive lifting or moving of cumbersome objects or equipment
Insecure footing, such as slippery or uneven surfaces
Needing to be bent over frequently or for long intervals
Poor workstation design
Lack of training in moving heavy objects properly
Working when tired
Constant vibration, as with delivery or forklift drivers
As an employee, some of these are under your control like posture and fitness, and some, like workstation design, must be worked out with your employer. With this list, you can be proactive in looking at factors that could contribute to a future low back problem and eliminate them.
The Activator Method Offers Distinct Advantages For Low Back Pain
Last week, I told you the story of an older fellow who experienced rapid and stable relief from use of the Activator adjusting instrument after he had hurt his low back. I want to stress the benefit of the Activator adjusting instrument when you are in the acute phase of a low back problem. Sure, the Activator method is therapeutic for all types of painful back problems and all phases of recovery from treating acute problems to long-term maintenance. But when you’re in severe pain and can’t turn over without spasms, that’s when it’s absolutely vital.
I love it when I’m able to reduce someone’s pain right away without making them turn over on the adjusting table. When I see a patient having to turn over one or more times during an adjustment at someone else’s practice, it makes me wince.
Learn for yourself how comfortable an adjustment with an Activator adjusting instrument can be. You really don’t need to wait until you have back pain! I’ve created a special offer to help you get started at a very reasonable cost: An initial exam, x-rays, an Activator Technique adjustment plus a 30-minute massage for just $100!
